Fed Cup: Belgium powers into World Group Playoffs

After Yanina and Kirsten paved the way perfectly, Elise finished the job: our Belgian tennis girls beat Romania in the Fed Cup. With the 3-1 end result they also lifted themselves into a World Group play-off clash, playing for the promotion to World Group I (top eight) in April. This is a big success for the team and coach Monami, in a tournament in which they started out as underdogs. Yanina played an epic match (7-6 (7/4), 5-7, 7-5), in which she once again showed her grandiose fighter spirit. A big congratulations to the whole team!

After losing the opening set in the heat of Show Court 3 in Melbourne, Czech Lucie Safarova (WTA 61) looked in all sorts of trouble down 0-40 on her serve at 5-6 in the second. Yanina had nine match points to finish the game, but Safarova somehow regained the balance, thus sealing an unlikely victory. End score: 3-6, 7-6 (9/7), 6-1.

Yanina switches to Yonex

Yanina switches to Yonex

As of this month, Yanina will be playing on the tour with a Yonex racquet. "Many strong players are starting to use Yonex racquets, so I had always wanted to try using one," she commented. "The square racquet frame lets me get more power out of my serves and strokes when I hit from the top. Thanks to the VCORE SV, I also get more spin and can be even more aggressive," she continued. Looking forward to a great season with Yonex!
